Job Night @ Stammtisch

ANNOUNCEMENT: Job Night @ Stammtisch! The Free Software Stammtisch is hosting a job night at this coming east valley event on Tuesday, 2012Oct16. The goal is to bring in engineers and managers from groups that are hiring in addition to job seekers and recruiters. For technical positions it's much better to talk directly to the team that is hiring.

Limoncelli's time mgt videos

Author Tom Limoncelli has collected his Time Management for System Administrators videos in one place. Watch the videos, read the book.

System administrators have abnormal time and task management needs. Tom does a great job of addressing those along with the normal time management stuff.

I recommand Time Management for System Administrators as a supplimental book for my system administration classes and plan to start using some of Tom's videos in class.

Linux paid internship in Scottsdale

There's a post on the PLUG site about a paid Linux internship in Scottsdale.

###
A Scottsdale company is looking for someone to fill a paid Linux Internship. This requires knowledge in Red Hat based distros with a "nice to have" in LAMP type setups. The candidate would report directly or perhaps indirectly, to Mike Ballon; the position does have a good possibility of becoming full time.

Annual PLUG party

Every year PLUG has an end of year party for the December east side meeting.

We encourage bringing family and friends. This is a social event with no presentations. We will have some giveaways including some new Free Software comics.

We also encourage bringing some food to share.

No alcohol because the meeting is at a school.

This will be the only in person PLUG meeting this month, so turn out and participate.

ABLEconf is almost here

ABLEconf is the brand new Free Software conference for Arizona. Our goal is to introduce Free Software such as GNU/Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird, the GIMP, Inkscape and OpenOffice.org to the general public. We'll also have geek stuff like programming and storage and toys and games :).

The inaugural ABLEconf event is being held on Software Freedom Day, Saturday, September 20th 2008, at the University for Advancing Technology (UAT) from 10:00 to 17:00.

ABLEconf call for presentations

A coalition of Arizona Free Software user groups are proud to announce the 1st annual Arizona Business and Liberty Experience Conference.

ABLE Conf is a Free Software conference organized by The League of Professional System Administrators Arizona Chapter, the Phoenix Linux Users' Group, the Ubuntu Arizona LoCo Team, the Phoenix BSD Users' Group, Teens for Linux, the Tucson Free Unix Group, the SMLUG, the Linux Users' Group of Yavapi, the Arizona State University Linux Users' Group, and DeVry Linux Users' Group.

Fall Free Software classes

The Fall semester starts next week for the community colleges. Lots of Free Software classes being offered.

Update: changed the URL to include full classes and not specify the semester. It seems to default to the current semester.

Here are the results for a search for Linux that was netting 42 classes and 17 different courses.

Paintball was fun

Paintball was fun. We had a mix of people. It was also a good opportunity to give Kevin a bit of a send off and hope it's the last time he's shot at in the next few years.

tunys was in to represent the Avondale Stammtisch and schlepped his Lojban book with him. We should've gotten him to yell out war cries in Lojban :).

The indoor facility is nice and the appropriate place for summer games in Phoenix, but we should try one of the outdoor facilities in late Fall.

Geek Paintball

Some PLUG and LOPSA-US-AZ members will be meeting to play paintball at noon on June 14th. The event is open to anyone who wants to join us. We can get up to 30 people on the group reservation, but the facility can accomodate more.

See the Xtreme Pursuit group rate page to see what you get for $25. We'll certainly be needing to buy more ammo as well.

LOPSA @ SCALE 6x
