Added list of orgs to contact for ABLEconf

At tonight's PLUG meeting I asked everyone there to help promote ABLEconf. To that end, it was requested that I post a list of organizations to contact, so I pulled the list out of last year's wiki and created a blog entry.

If you are interested in helping us, please choose appropriate organizations for the Call for Presentations as that closes soon and we still need to reach more people.

Presentation accepted for SCaLE 9x

Apparently my Tunneling with SSH presentation was accepted for SCaLE 9x as I'm on the schedule. No email confirmation yet. I presume that'll come through soon.

This presentation is an expansion and update of my Linux Journal article on how to Use SSH to Cross a Suspect Host Securely from last year.

GNU/Linux security class will run for MCC

MCC's GNU/Linux security class is scheduled to start Oktober 20th. This one doesn't run very often, so sign up now.

The class has been confirmed for this quarter. It will be running.

The class got dropped from the system, but is being added back in. I was able to confirm tonight that it will be running.

Call the BII at 480 461 6100 and ask for Jessica to sign up for the class.

GNU/Linux security class starting Oktober 20th

MCC's GNU/Linux security class is scheduled to start Oktober 20th. This one doesn't run very often, so sign up now.

The class will be run as a hands on lab as that's essential to really understanding security tools. It runs Monday and Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:40 for 8 weeks, 2008Okt20 to 2008Dez10.

Call the BII at 480 461 6100 and ask for Jessica to sign up for the class.

new security lab

PLUG is starting a new security lab on the second Saturday of every month. We'll be meeting from noon until 15:00 at UAT.

A security tool will be presented and then we'll work on using it. Bring a laptop and be prepared to use Live CDs to experiment with various Free Software security tools.

Thanks to UAT for providing a space for us to meet and especially for allowing us to run a security lab on their network.

ABLEconf is almost here

ABLEconf is the brand new Free Software conference for Arizona. Our goal is to introduce Free Software such as GNU/Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird, the GIMP, Inkscape and OpenOffice.org to the general public. We'll also have geek stuff like programming and storage and toys and games :).

The inaugural ABLEconf event is being held on Software Freedom Day, Saturday, September 20th 2008, at the University for Advancing Technology (UAT) from 10:00 to 17:00.

ABLEconf call for presentations

A coalition of Arizona Free Software user groups are proud to announce the 1st annual Arizona Business and Liberty Experience Conference.

ABLE Conf is a Free Software conference organized by The League of Professional System Administrators Arizona Chapter, the Phoenix Linux Users' Group, the Ubuntu Arizona LoCo Team, the Phoenix BSD Users' Group, Teens for Linux, the Tucson Free Unix Group, the SMLUG, the Linux Users' Group of Yavapi, the Arizona State University Linux Users' Group, and DeVry Linux Users' Group.

OpenOffice.org sold out!

The OpenOffice.org class at MCC is 100% full. Doubly-so, actually.

It was supposed to be limited to a half-size class, but it has a full class of students.

Other Free Software classes at a variety of community colleges in the valley are also doing well.
