Happy Sysadmin Day

Happy 11th annual Sysadmin Day. Once again I get to celebrate it as a sysadmin. I also get to celebrate it by starting the workday 2 hours before midnight...

I also get to celebrate by taking my baby for playtime at the gym. It'll be a great day :).

Annual PLUG party

Every year PLUG has an end of year party for the December east side meeting.

We encourage bringing family and friends. This is a social event with no presentations. We will have some giveaways including some new Free Software comics.

We also encourage bringing some food to share.

No alcohol because the meeting is at a school.

This will be the only in person PLUG meeting this month, so turn out and participate.

new security lab

PLUG is starting a new security lab on the second Saturday of every month. We'll be meeting from noon until 15:00 at UAT.

A security tool will be presented and then we'll work on using it. Bring a laptop and be prepared to use Live CDs to experiment with various Free Software security tools.

Thanks to UAT for providing a space for us to meet and especially for allowing us to run a security lab on their network.

ABLEconf call for presentations

A coalition of Arizona Free Software user groups are proud to announce the 1st annual Arizona Business and Liberty Experience Conference.

ABLE Conf is a Free Software conference organized by The League of Professional System Administrators Arizona Chapter, the Phoenix Linux Users' Group, the Ubuntu Arizona LoCo Team, the Phoenix BSD Users' Group, Teens for Linux, the Tucson Free Unix Group, the SMLUG, the Linux Users' Group of Yavapi, the Arizona State University Linux Users' Group, and DeVry Linux Users' Group.

OpenOffice.org sold out!

The OpenOffice.org class at MCC is 100% full. Doubly-so, actually.

It was supposed to be limited to a half-size class, but it has a full class of students.

Other Free Software classes at a variety of community colleges in the valley are also doing well.

Fall Free Software classes

The Fall semester starts next week for the community colleges. Lots of Free Software classes being offered.

Update: changed the URL to include full classes and not specify the semester. It seems to default to the current semester.

Here are the results for a search for Linux that was netting 42 classes and 17 different courses.

Geek Paintball

Some PLUG and LOPSA-US-AZ members will be meeting to play paintball at noon on June 14th. The event is open to anyone who wants to join us. We can get up to 30 people on the group reservation, but the facility can accomodate more.

See the Xtreme Pursuit group rate page to see what you get for $25. We'll certainly be needing to buy more ammo as well.

lots of Free Software activities

We've got lot's of activities coming up.

GNU/Linux security class starting the first week of June.

The Ubuntu desktop class continues on Wednesday at the west side meeting.

Geek paintball at xtreme-pursuit at noon on June 14th. We're working on a group rate, so contact me if you'd like to participate.

LoCo InstallFest
